Saint Patrick’s Day is the perfect excuse to get creative with typography and design. In this post, we’ll walk through how to create a festive typographic design using some of Typogram’s most powerful features: premium typefaces with alternate letters, AI-generated icons, and smart color palette suggestions. Plus, we’ll fine-tune spacing to create a well-balanced, polished look.

Step 1: Choosing the Right Typeface

A great design starts with a great typeface. Typogram offers premium typefaces that you won’t find anywhere else—perfect for making your design stand out. For this project, we’re using a decorative typeface that includes built-in alternate letter styles. This means we can swap certain letters for different stylistic variations, adding more personality and uniqueness to the design.

To experiment with alternate letters, simply select a letter and browse through the style options in the right-side panel. Play around and mix different versions until you find a combination that feels just right.

Step 2: Adjusting Spacing for a Balanced Layout

Once we’ve chosen our typeface and alternates, it’s time to focus on spacing. Proper spacing ensures that our design feels premium and intentional. If the letters are too close together, the design can feel cramped; too far apart, and it can lose cohesion.

In Typogram, we can fine-tune letter spacing easily. A good rule of thumb is to adjust the spacing so that each letter has room to breathe while still feeling connected to the overall composition. This is especially important for decorative or script-like typefaces.

Step 3: Adding an AI-Generated Icon

A strong visual element can elevate a typographic design, and Typogram’s AI icon feature makes it easy to add custom illustrations. Since Saint Patrick’s Day is all about clovers and Celtic knots, we’ll generate an AI icon that fits the theme.

To do this, we can use the Add Icon feature: enter a simple but detailed description describing general look and style of the icon, and let the AI create an SVG icon for us.If we’re not happy with the first result, we can regenerate or choose from previously created icons.

Step 4: Choosing a Festive Color Palette

Color is key in setting the right mood. Instead of manually selecting colors, we can use Typogram’s Color Palette Suggestion feature. By starting with a base color—like a rich green for Saint Patrick’s Day—we can instantly generate a range of color palettes containing that rich green color to get more color ideas.

Here’s how:

  1. Select a starting color (lime green works great for this theme).
  2. Head over to the Palette section.
  3. Browse the suggested color schemes and pick one that enhances the design.

For this project, we’re using a lime green for the typography, a soft yellow for accents, and a very light beige as a highlight. This keeps the design fresh, festive, and balanced.

Final Touches

With our typeface, spacing, icon, and color palette in place, our design is coming together beautifully. As a final touch, we can swap out one of the letters—like the "O" in "Typography"—for a clover icon, making the design feel even more special and memorable.

And that’s it! With just a few smart tools and adjustments, we’ve created a professional, eye-catching Saint Patrick’s Day design. Give these features a try in Typogram and have fun experimenting with your festive creations!
