Hi Everyone 👋

It’s Wenting here, and I’m thrilled to share our latest product update. This one’s a bit different from our usual updates, but I’m so excited about it that I couldn’t wait to tell you!

What’s New: Typogram Plugin for Canva

Last month, I attended the Typographics conference in New York, and it sparked an idea. While Typogram has been serving our dedicated users wonderfully, I realized there’s a whole world of designers using platforms like Canva who could benefit from our advanced typography features. So, we’re building a bridge - a Typogram plugin for Canva!

Why Canva?

Canva is incredibly popular for its ease of use, especially for social media designs. However, it has limitations when it comes to typography. That’s where we come in!

Feature №1: Variable Fonts Support

The star of our new plugin is Variable Font support. We’re bringing our entire collection of variable fonts to Canva, including premium fonts licensed from our friends at The Type Founders. This technology, introduced in 2016, allows for unprecedented control over font characteristics like weight, width, contrast, and more.

Feature №2: Standard Typography Controls

We’re adding standard controls for line-height, alignment, and color.

Feature №3: Justify Alignment

This is our creative solution for creating perfect rectangular text blocks. The plugin automatically adjusts font size to ensure your text forms a perfect rectangle - incredibly useful for various design scenarios.

What’s Next?

While we’re starting with these fundamental features, we have big plans for the future. We’re considering bringing more Typogram features to Canva through additional plugins, including:

  • Ligatures
  • Glyph Substitutions
  • Variable Font Gradients
  • Rounding Corners
  • Manipulation of anchor points in fonts

Hearing From You

The plugin, currently codenamed "Typogram Strings," is about 90% complete. We’re planning to launch in the coming weeks, but before that, we’d love your input:

  1. What Typogram features would you most like to see in Canva?
  2. Interested in being a beta tester? Let us know!
  3. Have any ideas for a catchier name than "Typogram Strings"? We’re all ears!

Your feedback and support mean everything to us and to Typogram’s growth. If you’ve tried our main Typogram tool, we’d love to hear which features you find most valuable and would want to see in Canva.

If you encounter any issues with our current Typogram tool or have suggestions for the upcoming Canva plugin, please don’t hesitate to reach out. You can reply directly to this post, use our feedback form, or chat with us via the in-app chat window.

Stay tuned for more updates - we have so many exciting things planned for the future!
